J Smith.jpg

Janice Smith

I lived in Mattishall for over 30 years (although I now live in Dereham) and was first elected onto the Parish Council in 2000.  I saw the post as a continuation of my caring and assisting people with their problems and helping in promoting the work of the Parish Council.

I have had great pleasure in creating an avenue of roses either side of the Cemetery footpath, tending the rose garden either side of the gates, developing the bank garden around the Memorial Garden and planting the flower displays under the village entrance signs to give all our residents and visitors a welcome to the village.

Being a Parish Councillor is a position I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone who feels they want to be more involved.  If you are just that person come along and join us. Don't worry about what to do as we have an excellent clerk who gives guidance to us all!

Janice is a member of the Open Spaces Working Group.

Richard Turner

I was born in Norwich and have lived and worked mainly in Norfolk. In 2013, having taken early retirement, I moved back to the family home owned since 1975.

I belong to several conservation organisations and we maintain our garden for the benefit of wildlife, others might just call it untidy.

I joined the parish council in 2015 and also joined the group developing the Neighbourhood Plan. I enjoy being involved in the village events, and the preparation for them, which offsets some of the more mundane aspects of parish council business.

Richard is the councillor with responsibility for checking and providing scrutiny on the Council's finances, he is a member of the Policies & Procedures Working Group, and the Flooding Group.  He is the Chairman of the Council for 22-23.

Richard is a member of the Flooding Working Group and the Communications Working Group.

Chairman Richard Norton_edited.jpg

Richard Norton

I am a Mattishall man, born and bred. I still live in the house in which I was born and am part of a large family that has lived in Mattishall since the 1700s.  I used to run the bakery on Church Plain but since having to give it up I now work as a nurse at the N&N Hospital.

I have been a Parish Councillor since 1983 and served as Chairman for many of those years. I am also a Trustee of the Barlow Charity responsible for the old school site and its affordable housing project.

I want to see the community thrive but to grow in a well-planned and appropriate way for the rural village it is.  I still enjoy this work and find it rewarding - it is something I can do to help this community where my roots are and one which I love.

Richard is a trustee of the Barlow Charity and is a member of the Open Spaces Working Group.

David Piper

I moved to Mattishall in 2016 having lived in Essex for many years before.  I am retired now but previously worked as a scientist and was a retained fire fighter for 19 years.  I was also a parish councillor in Essex.  I am a member of several village organisations, including the Barlow Charity and Mattishall Society. I am a Mattishall school governor.

My hobbies are fly-fishing, walking, gardening, cycling, keeping fit and travel.

David is a member of the following groups: Open Spaces Working Group, Local Liaison Group (PC representative - A47 dualling and North Western Link) and PC representative for the Youth Group.

I believe in trying to provide a voice for the people of Mattishall and in listening to local concerns.

He is also a trustee of the Barlow Charity.

John Pickering

Following a long career in the Army and more recently in management consulting, involving several home relocations, my family moved to our forever home in beautiful Mattishall in July 2021.

I have always been interested in the issues that affect the local community and understand the importance of having a voice in influencing decisions that affect our village and quality of life. I was as a member of my previous Parish Council in Harston, Cambridge.

My hobbies include keeping fit, rugby coaching, learning to garden and walking our two Chow Chow dogs. You may have seen my wife and I walking them around the village. Do say hello if you see us.

John is a member of the Planning Working Group and Communications Working Group.

I moved to the village in 2019 after retiring from local government, working in the areas of planning and economic development. I am a member of the Mattishall Society and have a keen interest in environmental issues. I lead on the Parish Council's Footpath Working Group and am also a member of the Planning Monitoring Group. My role on the Parish Council enables me to play an active part in the village life particularly ensuring that changes and new developments are beneficial to local residents.

In my spare time I enjoy walking, cycling, football and gardening.

Michael Onassis

I am married and have lived in Mattishall for about 18 years and Norfolk for a total

of 23 years having originated in Essex. I have served in two of the Emergency

Services (Fire 30 years) (Ambulance 2 1⁄2 years Emergency, 6 years Patient

Transport) and have previously served as a Mattishall Parish Councillor but my

then work patterns did not give me the flexibility to give the time needed for the

task. I have been retired now for about a year and have more control of my diary

and genuinely feel I have personal qualities and commitment to benefit the people

and Parish of Mattishall.

My interests are Motorcycling, Camping, Radio Amateur (M7MCO), Travelling,

Walking our two dogs and Countryside and Environmental issues.
